MOISEYEV DANCE COMPANY
Since its founding, more than 70 years ago, the Moiseyev Dance Company has, through its extensive touring schedule, brought its theatre of national dance to millions of its fans.
Igor Moiseyev, the company's founder, created more than 300 original works for his dancers, ranging from brief comic episodes to such lavishly staged spectacles as the "Polovetsian Dances" from Prince Igor. Though often described as folk dances, Moiseyev's creations are really a combination of the classical and national arts. The Moiseyev dancers exhibit superb training, and though eye-popping virtuosity is prevalent in any Moiseyev performance, there is an elegance of style consistent with solid classical training.
This second volume in VAI's retrospective or Russia's most popular dance troupe features such colorful works as the Aragon Jota, the clever Bashkirian Dance where choreography is heightened by optical illusion, and the extended, rollicking Greek Suite providing an exhilarating finale to another Moiseyev spectacular.
