Malayalam

Malayalam is one of the four major languages of Southern India. It is the official language in the state of Kerala and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry. It is spoken by 35.9 million people. It is also a language that had been heavily influenced by Sanskrit.


The Malayalam New Testament was first published in 1829. The first complete Malayalam Bible was printed by Benjamin Bailey, the Anglican missionary, in 1841. The International Bible Society, currently known as IBS-STL had translated and published the NIBV (New India Bible Version) in Malayalam.
