Everyone is summoned to the spiritual feast of the book: “Come, come, eat the bread that is in this spiritual wisdom and drink the mentally joyful wine: come, all of you who are partakers of the title of Orthodoxy, the worldly people together and foreigners, the Kingdom of God that is within you, and in the village hearts If you strive to find the hidden treasure, it is the sweet Jesus Christ. May your mind be freed from captivity from those below, and wandering from the wanderings, by the unceasing fearful invocation of our Lord Jesus Christ, and assisted by other virtues offered in this book, unite with yourself, with yourself and with God, just as the Lord prayed to the Father, saying: that they may be one, as We are one (John 17:11).”

The Philokalia reflects everything that happens in life: enemy attacks and temptations, falls and uprisings, the state of mind and heart, the feeling of the closeness and distance of God, the feeling of God’s Providence and complete surrender of oneself to the right hand of the Lord.

Just as travelers wrote travel notes about everything that was worthy of their attention, so God’s chosen ones wrote their notes about everything that they encountered and experienced in their difficult journey on the path of spiritual growth.

На духовный пир книги созываются все: «Приидите убо, приидите, ядите сущий во оной духовный премудрости хлеб и пийте вино мысленне возвеселяющее: приидите вси, елицы звания православного причастницы есте, мирстии вкупе и иноцы, сущее внутрь вас Царствие Божие, и на селе сердца сокровенное сокровище обрести тщащися, еже есть сладкий Иисус Христос. Да пленения от дольних, и скитания уму вашему свободившуся, непрестанным Господа нашего Иисуса Христа страшным призыванием, и содействующими прочими добродетельми, предлагаемыми в настоящей книзе, соединитеся сами с собою, сами же собою и с Богом, якоже и Господь ко Отцу моляшеся, глаголя: да будут едино, якоже и Мы едино есмы (Ин. 17, 11)».

В «Добротолюбии» отображено все, бывающее в жизни: вражеские нападения и искушения, падения и восстания, состояние ума и сердца, ощущение близости и отдаления Божия, чувство Промысла Божия и полное отдание себя в десницу Господню.

Как путешественники писали путевые заметки обо всем, что было достойно их внимания, так писали свои заметки и избранники Божии обо всем, что встречали и испытывали в многотрудном шествовании на пути духовного возрастания.
