English Summary:
The Scarlet Pimpernel is a series of television drama programmes loosely based on Baroness Emmuska Orczy's series of novels, set during the French Revolution.
It stars Richard E. Grant as Sir Percy Blakeney, and his alter ego, the eponymous hero. The first series also starred Elizabeth McGovern as his wife Marguerite and Martin Shaw as the Pimpernel's archrival, Paul Chauvelin. Robespierre was played by Ronan Vibert.
It was filmed in the Czech Republic and scored by a Czech composer, Michal Pavlíček.

Franciaország, 1793. Tombol a forradalom. Robespierre polgártárs hűséges csatlósával, a titkosszolgálat vezérével, Chauvelin-nel karöltve egymás után küldi az ártatlanokat a guillotine alá. Előkelőségek, akiknek csak az a bűnük, hogy nemesnek születtek. Parasztok és papok, akiknek elegük van a vérontásból - mind a vérpadon végzik. Egyetlen férfi van csupán, aki ellen mer szegülni a "szent igazságszolgáltatásnak". A Vörös Pimpernel... A titokzatos, álruhába rejtőző alak állandóan borsot tör a néptribunok orra alá. A szemük előtt hajtja végre mesterien kitervelt akcióit, bármit is tesznek, nem tudnak túljárni az eszén... Mivel a franciák gyanítják, hogy a Vörös Pimpernel álarca mögött egy angol arisztokrata rejtőzik, Chauvelin Angliába teszi át székhelyét, hogy elvegyülve az arisztokrata társaságban végre felfedje a misztikus férfi személyét. Chauvelin azt reméli hajdani szerelme, a szép színésznő Marguerite segítségére lehet. Marguerite férje ugyanis a különc lovag, Sir Percy Blakeney (Richard E. Grant), aki az előkelő társaság kedvence, és fölöttébb különös férfiú.
