Overview
Alexander Grechaninov (1864–1956), a bridge between the Romantic and early modern eras of Russian music, devoted much of his output to the art of the romance. This LP traces his poetic voice from the lush French symbolism of Les Fleurs du Mal, through the heartfelt simplicity of his early Russian romances, to the more complex emotional tapestry of the Poème dramatique. Konstantin Pluzhnikov’s bright tenor and Marina Mishuk’s sensitive pianism bring out every shade of Grechaninov’s melodic invention and national spirit.
