According to some, Banaras is the most ancient city of the world. Crossroads of all cultures of India, it has been a place of pilgrimage for the past 2500 years. Ustad Bismillah Khan, an exceptional musician of Indian Raga, is known for his astounding work with the Shanaï oboe. Even though he was influenced by traditional Indian music, he was able to transcend the status of the oboe from that of common procession instrument to that of a solo instrument. Along the banks of the Ganges, the images of Banaras provide a visual counterpart to the musical creation of the maestro's genius.

Benares selon certains, la plus ancienne ville du monde, carrefour de toutes les cultures de l'Inde et haut lieu de pèlerinages depuis 2500 ans. Ustad Bismillah Khan un musicien exceptionnel. Bien qu'influencé de traditions musicales Indiennes et respectueux de ses formes classiques, il a réussi à transcender le Schanai. Le Schanal: étonnant hautbois. jusque-là cantonné dans le rôle modeste d'instrument de procession pour en faire le véhicule d'une oeuvre inspirée, sans concession et universelle.
