Lajos Papp was born in Debrecen, Hungary, in 1935. He graduated with a degree in composition from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in 1960. After teaching in Budapest until 1971, he received a scholarship to the Basel Conservatory from 1971 to 1973. Since then, he has been teaching piano and composition in Oldenburg, Germany. He is renowned for his pedagogical works, including the two-volume "Piano ABC" (Zongora-ABC).
