The history of Bible translations into Macedonian is connected in its early years with the history of Bible translations into Bulgarian. Prior to the codification of the standard Macedonian during 1945, Macedonian dialects were described by most linguists as being dialects of the Bulgarian language. The label "Bulgarian language" for various Macedonian dialects can be seen from early texts written in the local Slavic vernacular in Macedonia in the 18th and the 19th century and their authors referred to their language as Bulgarian. For Bulgarian researchers these vernacular Slavic translations of the gospel belong to the Bulgarian cultural tradition

Новиот завет е вториот дел на Библијата (по Стариот завет) и содржи 27 книги, вклучувајќи ги евангелијата, историјата и дејноста на првите христијани, неколку писма на св. Павле и книгата Откровение. Новит завет енапишан на старогрчки јазик (Novum Testamentum Graece).

Новиот завет е централното писмено свидетелство на христијанството, во кое основната претставена личност е Исус Христос. Новиот завет започнува со четирите евангелија: според Матеј, според Марко, според Лука и според Јован, иако тие не се најстарите списи во него. Иако евангелијата се занимаваат со истите случувања, тие го прикажуваат Исус на различни начини. Евангелието според Матеј е посебно познато поради тоа што ја содржи молитвата „Оче наш“, и поради тоа што ја нагласува разликата на Исусовото учење во однос на учењето од Стариот завет.

Откровението на Јован Богослов се нарекува уште и „покалипса“. Во него авторот ја опишува својата визија за победата на Бог над злото и смртта. Овој дел од Новиот завет извршил најголема инспирација врз натамошната литература. Инаку, сите елементи од Новиот завет нашле свој одраз во европската уметност: во сликарството, литературата, музиката, скулптурата.
