Overview

Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival returned to New York's Madison Square Garden across two nights in April 2013, and this two-disc set captures the result — 45 performances and nearly five hours of music, the broadest Crossroads lineup yet committed to disc.

The roster is extraordinary. Clapton anchors it, but the stage passes between The Allman Brothers Band, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Keith Urban, John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr., Vince Gill, Los Bobos, Booker T. with Steve Cropper, Robert Cray, Taj Mahal, Keb' Mo', Albert Lee, Doyle Bramhall II, Sonny Landreth and many more. Highlights run deep: Clapton opening with "Tears in Heaven," the Allmans tearing through "Whipping Post," Beck's "Going Down" with Beth Hart, Clapton and Keith Richards on "Key to the Highway," and a closing all-star "High Time We Went."

Captured in 5.1 with behind-the-scenes footage, it's a cornerstone live document for blues and guitar fans — and a benefit at heart, with royalties supporting the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, the addiction-treatment charity Clapton founded.

Interesting Facts

  • The festival raises money for Crossroads Centre in Antigua, the addiction-recovery facility Eric Clapton founded in 1998; DVD royalties go to the charity.

  • Clapton trades songs with Keith Richards ("Key to the Highway") and Robbie Robertson ("I Shall Be Released").
  • Directed by Martyn Atkins, with Clapton among the producers; mixed in stereo and 5.1.
