Overview
Eric Gales arrived at this album with somthing to prove. Thirty years in the game, eighteen albums deep, and five years sober — Crown is the record that ties it all together.
The lyrics and tone converge around themes of regret, redemption, and resurgence. Not self-congratulation. Real weight. Gales deals with past struggles, love lost and found, and racism head-on — and the music carries every word of it.
Produced by Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith, Crown's 16 tracks include 13 songs co-written by Gales, Bonamassa, and Smith, with contributions from Tom Hambridge, James House, Keb' Mo', and LaDonna Gales, plus three instrumental vignettes.
The guitar work is relentless. His masterful combination of feel and technique reaches frequent peaks, with rousing, Jimi Hendrix-inspired rocker "Death of Me" and slow burner "I Found Her" showcasing his fluid, emotive playing at its best.
"I Want My Crown" feat. Joe Bonamassa is pure fun — a playful, funky challenge between two guitarists, with a killer rhythm section underneath. Then "Take Me Just As I Am" flips the script, letting LaDonna Gales take the lead in a soulful, Curtis Mayfield-tinged groove.
Track for track, Crown is the most consistent, musically ambitious, and satisfying album Gales has delivered in a long time — a modern blues record that is as much a protest album as it is a dance album.
This copy is hand-signed by Eric Gales — on both the front cover and the CD disc itself. The signature is in gold marker.
Interesting Facts
- Eric Gales is a left-handed guitarist who plays a right-handed guitar strung upside-down — a technique that gives him a uniquely inverted tone and phrasing style compared to conventionally strung instruments.
- Joe Bonamassa has stated Gales is "one of the best, if not the best in the world."
- Over 30 years and 18 albums, Gales' passion for the music never waned, even when his own light dimmed due to substance struggles. Crown was recorded five years into sobriety.
- The album was mastered by Bob Ludwig — one of the most sought-after mastering engineers in the industry, known for working with artists from Paul McCartney to Led Zeppelin.
- LaDonna Gales, who sings on "Take Me Just As I Am," is Eric's wife — and she also served as background vocal arranger for the entire record.
- Songwriting contributors include Keb' Mo' and Tom Hambridge, two of the most respected figures in contemporary blues.
- Three short instrumental vignettes are woven into the track listing, giving the album an almost cinematic, chapter-book feel.

A gitárjáték könyörtelen.
A Crown ennek a belső útnak a lenyomata.
- A masteringet Bob Ludwig végezte — az iparág egyik legelismertebb mestere, aki Paul McCartneytől Led Zeppelinig dolgozott együtt a legnagyobb nevekkel.
- LaDonna Gales, aki a "Take Me Just As I Am" c. dalban énekel, Eric felesége — és ő felelt az egész album háttérvokál-koreográfiájáért is.
