Overview
Better Than Home is Beth Hart's most optimistic album to date. That's saying something for an artist who has lived through real darkness — bipolar disorder, the loss of her sister, years of personal struggle.
The album feels like a catharsis. A deep breath, relieving and redeeming.
Each track is fueled by the power and intensity of her voice, with her blues background never far from the surface. Hart rocks hardest in "Trouble," while tracks like "The Mood That I'm In" and "Might As Well Smile" let her stretch vocally. Piano accents add delicacy in "We're Still Living in the City" and "As Long As I Have a Song," while "Mechanical Heart" benefits from orchestral accompaniment.
The title track is dedicated to her late father. Personal. Direct. No filler.
Hart also worked with new producers — Rob Mathes and Michael Stevens, both of whom she met after performing at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. The change in production team brought a softer, more soulful texture to her sound without losing the emotional bite she's known for.
This copy is hand-signed by Beth Hart on the front cover in black marker.
Interesting Facts
- In the nearly 20 years since Hart launched her solo career, she has collaborated onstage and in the studio with Slash, Buddy Guy, and Jeff Beck, and toured with Joe Bonamassa.
- The recording sessions took place partly at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London — the same rooms used by The Beatles.
- Hart has been open about living with bipolar disorder, and her music has long served as her most direct form of self-expression and therapy.
- Hart's husband and manager convinced her to work with Rob Mathes and Michael Stevens, moving away from producer Kevin Shirley who had helmed her previous three albums.
- Guitarist Larry Campbell — long-time collaborator of Bob Dylan and Levon Helm — played on the album alongside drummer Charley Drayton.
- The album was recorded in August 2014 and released the following April, a notably quick turnaround for a major label release.

Áttekintés
A Better Than Home Beth Hart eddigi legoptimistább albuma.
A "Trouble"-ban keményebben rock-ol, a "Might As Well Smile" és a "The Mood That I'm In" viszont tágabb teret ad a hangnak. A "Mechanical Heart" zenekari kísérettel gazdagodik, a "We're Still Living in the City" lágy zongoraakcentusokkal dolgozik.
A címadó dal a néhait elhunyt édesapjának szól. Személyes. Közvetlen. Semmi felesleg.
- A felvételek részben a legendás Abbey Road Stúdióban készültek Londonban — ugyanabban a teremben, ahol a Beatles dolgozott.
- Hart nyíltan vállalja bipoláris zavarát; zenéje mindig is közvetlen önkifejezésének és terápiájának eszköze volt.
- A gitáros Larry Campbell — Bob Dylan és Levon Helm egykori állandó munkatársa — szintén közreműködt az albumon.
