Overview
Twelve tracks. No fillers. Thats the deal with The Fight Is On.
Popa Chubby grew up in the Bronx, in a neighborhood made famous by Robert De Niro's film A Bronx Tale. That background bleeds into every track here — raw, no-nonsense New York blues rock that doesn't apologise for being loud.
The album leans hard into classic rock territory. Guitar-driven, heavy, punchy. Opener "The Fight Is On" sets the tone fast — boxing metaphors and blues riffs as a framing device for something more personal. "Rock & Roll Is My Religion" says the quiet part out loud. "NYC 1977 Till…" is a direct love letter to the city that made him.
This particular copy is hand-signed by Popa Chubby on the front cover. A collector's copy — not just a CD.

Tizenkét szám. Semmi felesleg. Ezzel lehet összefoglalni The Fight Is On-t.
Popa Chubby a bronxi utcákon nőtt fel, és ez érződik minden egyes számon — nyers, kompromisszummentes New York-i blues rock, ami nem szégyenkezik a hangereje miatt.
Az album erőteljesen a klasszikus rock felé húz. Gitárvezérelt, nehéz, pörgős. A nyitószám, a "The Fight Is On" azonnal megadja az alaphangot — ökölvívás-metaforák és blues riffek, egy személyesebb mondanivaló keretébe ágyazva. A "Rock & Roll Is My Religion" nem kertel.
Interesting Facts
- Popa Chubby's real name is Theodore Joseph "Ted" Horowitz, born March 31, 1960 in the Bronx, New York City.
- He started playing drums at age 13, but switched to guitar after being captivated by the Rolling Stones — teaching himself entirely by ear, without formal lessons, due to his family's financial constraints.
- In his early twenties he performed at iconic venues like CBGB's alongside bands including the Ramones, and supported punk poet Richard Hell.
- His stage name came from an impromptu jam with Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic — Worrell was singing a song called "Popa Chubby" and pointed at him.
- Despite being a New York artist, he is more popular in France than in the US — comparable in that respect to Jerry Lewis.
- His debut major-label album Booty and the Beast (1995) was produced by Tom Dowd — the legendary Atlantic Records engineer who worked with Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Wilson Pickett.
- The album was recorded partly live at The Spirit of 66 in Verviers, Belgium — one of his most faithful European audiences.
- Track 12, "Ace of Spades," is a cover of the Motörhead classic — Popa's take on it is everything you'd expect.
Magyar / Hungarian
- Popa Chubby igazi neve Theodore Joseph „Ted" Horowitz, 1960. március 31-én született a Bronxban, New Yorkban.
- A New York-i gyökerek ellenére Franciaországban népszerűbb, mint az Egyesült Államokban — hasonlóan Jerry Lewishez.
- Első nagylemezét, a Booty and the Beast-et (1995) Tom Dowd producerte, aki Aretha Franklinnel, Ray Charless-szel és Wilson Pickette-tel is dolgozott.
- A 12. szám, az „Ace of Spades" a Motörhead klasszikusának feldolgozása.
