Omega was founded in Budapest in 1962, making them one of the longest-active rock bands in the world — only the Rolling Stones (founded the same year) can match their continuous career. Their 1969 song "Gyöngyhajú lány" became one of the best-known Hungarian rock songs internationally, with German cover versions and millions of records sold across the Eastern Bloc. The Scorpions famously covered the song as "White Dove" in 1995, with songwriting credit going to Omega's Gábor Presser, who was a member of Omega from 1968-1971 before founding LGT. The classic Omega lineup of Kóbor János (vocals), Benkő László (keyboards), Mihály Tamás (bass), Molnár György (guitar) and Debreczeni Ferenc (drums) remained unchanged from 1971 through the 2010s — an almost unprecedented stability in rock history.
