Single-disc DVD in Flexbox case with a substantial illustrated booklet documenting Bencsik Sándor's career through vintage P. Mobil and Beatrice band photographs. The release gathers 35 live performance recordings and rare footage from across his too-short career, including material from Diósgyőri Popfesztivál, classic P. Mobil concerts, and his legendary guitar duels. Memorial dedications by Tunyogi Péter, Vikidál Gyula, Varga Miklós, Deák Bill Gyula and Schuster Lóránt are reproduced in the booklet. Authenticated with multiple original autographs from surviving P. Mobil members and collaborators, signed on the inside spread photographs. Special thanks to Monostori Péter (Munyó) and Tóth Imre (Tüsi) for archival footage.

Overview

This is not a regular concert DVD. This is a tribute — assembled by the men who played alongside Bencsik Sándor and survived him by decades. "Samu", as his bandmates called him, was the founding guitarist of P. Mobil and a key creative force behind Beatrice. He died in September 1987 at the age of 35. He was the bandmate the others never quite got over losing.

The signatures inside this copy are part of what makes it real. Schuster Lóránt, the P. Mobil mastermind who said yes the moment GrundRecords pitched this project, signed the dedication page. Other Hungarian rock veterans signed the photo spreads. Each name is someone whose career was changed by the man on the cover.

Thirty-five tracks across 95 minutes. Bencsik's guitar work running through "Csillag leszel" (the title track, fittingly enough), "Miskolc", "Ómen", "Utolsó cigaretta", "Kétforintos dal", "A 4 Rocktenor", "Pandora's Box", "Johnny B. Goode" — and a complete extended guitar duel section that shows exactly why other guitarists feared sharing a stage with him. The closer is "A zöld, a bíbor és a fekete" from István, a király, the rock opera that became Hungarian rock's most important moment.

The booklet quotes Deák Bill Gyula remembering the Szeged concert in 1987 when the news broke: "He played in my band for the last time. I never forgot it. There was an airy lightness about him that night, but the blues was only for him."

A füzetben Deák Bill Gyula így emlékezik az 1987-es szegedi koncertre, amikor megérkezett a halálhír: „Az én zenekaromban játszott utoljára. Soha nem felejtem el. Légies könnyűséget éreztem azon az estén, a blues csak neki szólt."

Bencsik Sándor was born on September 15, 1952 and became one of the most respected guitarists in Hungarian rock history before his death at age 35 on September 23, 1987 — almost exactly on his 35th birthday. He co-founded P. Mobil with Schuster Lóránt in 1973 and remained the band's primary guitarist and lead songwriter during their most influential years, composing many of the songs that would become Hungarian hard rock standards: "Rock 'n' Roll", "Miskolc", "Csillag leszel", "Kétforintos dal", and "Örökmozgó" among others. He also collaborated extensively with Beatrice, contributing to that band's classic mid-1970s recordings. The title track "Csillag leszel" was composed by Bencsik with lyrics by Schuster Lóránt, and through tragic coincidence the title — "You Will Be a Star" — became a posthumous prophecy. The famous Varga Miklós tribute song "Európa" from 1985 was inspired in part by Bencsik's playing style. Among the rare footage on this DVD is material from the Diósgyőri Popfesztivál, one of communist-era Hungary's most important rock festivals, where P. Mobil performed legendary sets. Guitarist Bencsik was known for his ability to seamlessly blend hard rock with classical themes — the inclusion of Beethoven's "Für Elise" on track 27 reflects this signature crossover style.
