Overview

This one is hard to replace. A signed, physical copy of the 4th European Blues Challenge — eighteen national champions, one stage, two nights in Riga in April 2014. The signatures on the cover aren't decoration. They belong to performers who competed here, and whoever owns this disc was close enough to get them.

The EBC compilation series has always been a limited run by nature. These discs were produced for the event, not for wide commercial distribution. Finding a clean copy is one thing. Finding a signed one is another matter entirely.

The music itself covers serious ground. Austria's Fenzl Experience opens with a Texas Shuffle. Germany's Mike Seeber Trio runs seven minutes on "Komm Herein." Latvia's Lavrix Band plays "Long Road" on home turf. Hungary's T. Rogers delivers "Sun On My Back." The UK closes with Dave Migden & the Twisted Roots. Eighteen tracks, eighteen countries — a genuine snapshot of where European blues stood in 2014.

The booklet adds context: full band bios, personnel, and a history of the European Blues Union from its 2007 origins through the Brussels registration in 2010. Its a document as much as a disc.

Interesting Facts

• The European Blues Union was formally registered in Brussels in June 2010, with six charter members. By 2014 it had grown to 29 member countries — all represented through national competitions feeding into the annual Challenge.
• The 4th EBC in Riga was held at Sapņu Fabrika — a well-known Latvian cultural and concert venue whose name translates as "Dream Factory."
• Latvia's own entrant, the Lavrix Band, performed on home ground. Their leader Vladimirs "Lavrix" Lavrinovics began playing guitar at age 15.
• Hungary's T. Rogers was a six-piece outfit at the time of the competition, drawing influences from a wide range of blues styles accumulated since the band's formation in 2004.
• Marco Pandolfi (Italy) was the first Italian blues musician to perform at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis — doing so with his band in 2006, then returning in 2011 as a solo act.
• Finland's Ina Forsman & the Helge Tallqvist Band featured Ina Forsman as a standout frontwomen — she has since built a substantial solo career on the European and international blues circuit.
• The disc was produced in cooperation with the participating artists and released by Blues Boulevard Records, a division of Music Avenue (Europe) based in Vilvoorde, Belgium. Thomas Ruf of Ruf Records served as EBU chairman at the time.
• This copy carries multiple signatures directly on the front cover — an unrepeatable artifact from the event itself.

Ezt a példányt nehéz lesz pótolni. A 4. Európai Blues Challenge aláírt, fizikai kiadása — tizennyolc nemzeti bajnok, egy színpad, két este Rigában, 2014 áprilisában.
