The XXV Congress of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union) was a political event that took place in Moscow from February 24 to March 5, 1976. It was the 25th congress of the ruling party of the Soviet Union, and it was attended by 5,071 delegates representing 17 million party members. The congress was presided over by Leonid Brezhnev, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, who delivered the main report on the work of the Central Committee and the future tasks of the party.

The main topics discussed at the congress were the achievements and challenges of the Soviet economy and society, the development of socialism and communism, the strengthening of the Soviet state and its defense capabilities, the promotion of peace and cooperation in the world, and the relations with other communist and socialist countries. The congress also adopted several documents, such as the new five-year plan for 1976-1980, the directives for the development of agriculture, and the resolutions on ideological work, party building, and international issues.

The congress also elected a new Central Committee, which consisted of 319 full members and 165 candidate members. The Central Committee was the executive leadership of the CPSU, which directed all party and governmental activities between congresses. The Central Committee also elected a new Politburo, which consisted of 15 full members and 11 candidate members. The Politburo was the highest decision-making body of the CPSU, which determined the general direction of domestic and foreign policy. Brezhnev was re-elected as the General Secretary of the Central Committee and the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet (the head of state).

The XXV Congress of the CPSU was widely covered by the Soviet media and celebrated as a milestone in the history of the party and the country. The congress also issued several commemorative items, such as medals, badges, stamps, postcards, books, and films. One example is a red postcard with a portrait of Vladimir Lenin on the left side and a red stamp on the right side. The stamp reads “XXV КПСС” (XXV CPSU) and “Ленин 50 копеек” (Lenin 50 kopecks). The background of the postcard is red with black line drawings of buildings and landmarks.
