Composer, violin and viola virtuoso Alessandro Rolla (1757-1841) composed numerous instrumental duets, often in series and mainly for string instruments. His song-like phrases and flowing melodies were partly inspired by the operatic masters of his day. Szabadi Vilmos is one of Hungary's foremost violinists, a regular soloist at home and abroad. At age 18, Qian Zhou received instant world-wide recognition at the 1987 Marguerite LongJacques Thibaud Competition, breaking all precedent in the competition's 50-year history by winning First Grand Prize and all five major prizes.
