In this edition, the text of the Synodal Translation of 1876 is checked against the Hebrew text of the Old Testament and the Greek text of the New Testament in order to eliminate inaccuracies made in the preparation of previous editions of the canonical Russian Bible. Italics are words added by translators "for clarity of speech connection". In the text of the Old Testament, the words taken by the authors of the Synodal translation from the Septuagint (Greek Bible) are enclosed in square brackets. In this edition, these inserts from the Greek Bible are preserved only where, from the point of view of modern textual criticism, the Greek text can be closer to the original than the Hebrew that has come down to us.
