Overview

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue — the White House. When a young woman is found murdered just steps from the Oval Office, the cover-up begins before the body is cold. D.C. homicide detective Harlan Regis (Wesley Snipes) catches the case and quickly finds himself locked out by the very people sworn to protect the President. His only ally is Secret Service agent Nina Chance (Diane Lane), an insider torn between duty and the truth. As Regis digs toward the First Family's front door, the conspiracy widens to take in covert agents, a looming overseas crisis, and a killer who can make witnesses simply disappear.

Directed by Dwight Little (Marked for Death, Rapid Fire), this taut political thriller pairs Snipes and Lane with a deep supporting cast — Alan Alda, Daniel Benzali, Ronny Cox, and Dennis Miller. This Region 2 PAL Warner edition is a strong pick for thriller collectors: a dual-aspect dual-side disc with 5.1 audio and an exceptionally broad subtitle slate that includes Hungarian.

Interesting Facts

  • Wesley Snipes reunited with director Dwight Little, who had previously directed him in Marked for Death (1990) and Passenger 57-era action territory.
  • The film was shot largely on elaborate recreated White House sets, as no production is permitted to film inside the real building.
  • Diane Lane's character, Nina Chance, is written as an Olympic-medalist marksman — a detail that pays off in the film's sharpshooting sequences.
  • The score was composed by Christopher Young, known for his work across thriller and horror cinema.
  • The disc carries one of the widest subtitle slates of its era, with more than 20 language options.
