Die Entführung aus dem Serail - The Abduction from the Seraglio; also known as Il Seraglio is an opera Singspiel in three acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The German libretto is by Gottlieb Stephanie, based on Christoph Friedrich Bretzner's Belmont und Constanze, oder Die Entführung aus dem Serail. The plot concerns the attempt of the hero Belmonte, assisted by his servant Pedrillo, to rescue his beloved Konstanze from the seraglio of Pasha Selim. The work premiered on 16 July 1782 at the Vienna Burgtheater, with the composer conducting.

The company that first sponsored the opera was the Nationalsingspiel ("national Singspiel"), a pet project (1778–1783) of the Austrian emperor Joseph II. The Emperor had set up the company to perform works in the German language (as opposed to the Italian opera style widely popular in Vienna). This project was ultimately given up as a failure, but along the way it produced a number of successes, mostly a series of translated works. Mozart's opera emerged as its outstanding original success.

Ferenc Fricsay (9 August 1914 – 20 February 1963) was a Hungarian conductor. From 1960 until his death, he was an Austrian citizen.

Fricsay was born in Budapest in 1914 and studied music under Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Ernst von Dohnányi, and Leó Weiner. With these and other faculty at the Budapest Academy of Music he studied piano, violin, clarinet, trombone, percussion, composition and conducting. Fricsay made his first appearance as a conductor at age 15, substituting for his father at the podium of the Young Musicians Orchestra of Budapest. In 1930, at the age of 16, he succeeded his father as conductor of the Young Musicians Orchestra

Die Entführung aus dem Serail (KV 384) ist ein Singspiel in drei Akten von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Das Libretto verfasste Johann Gottlieb Stephanie. Die Uraufführung fand am 16. Juli 1782 im Burgtheater in Wien unter der Leitung des Komponisten statt.

Konstanze, eine junge Spanierin, ihre englische Zofe Blonde und deren Freund, der Diener Pedrillo, sind nach einem Seeräuberüberfall von Konstanzes Verlobtem, dem spanischen Edelmann Belmonte, getrennt und auf einen Sklavenmarkt verschleppt worden. Glücklicherweise kauft sie Bassa Selim, ein gebürtiger Spanier, einst Christ und jetzt Muslim, und sorgt dafür, dass sie in seinem am Meer gelegenen Palast unter halbwegs erträglichen Bedingungen leben können. Belmonte hat nach Monaten einen Brief seines Dieners Pedrillo erhalten und kennt nun den Aufenthaltsort der Vermissten. Er segelt zu der von Pedrillo bezeichneten Küste, entschlossen, die Entführten zu retten.

Ferenc Karl Fricsay (* 9. August 1914 in Budapest, Österreich-Ungarn; † 20. Februar 1963 in Basel) war ein österreichischer Dirigent ungarischer Herkunft, der vor allem in Ungarn, Österreich und Deutschland wirkte.
