Overview
This is an authentic, vintage ceremonial banner from the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (LTSR), a regional republic of the former USSR. These heavy silk flags were not intended for everyday outdoor flagpole use. Instead, they served as official presentation banners kept in administrative buildings, factories, schools, or collective farms, often awarded for meeting production quotas or used during state parades and holidays.
The center displays the official state emblem of the Lithuanian SSR. Above the emblem, the classic Marxist state motto, "Proletarians of all countries, unite!" is boldly arched in Lithuanian. The same motto appears in smaller text on the ribbon within the emblem in both Lithuanian and Russian.
Interesting Facts
- The Emblem’s Design: Unlike the main USSR coat of arms which featured a globe, the Lithuanian SSR version highlights local agricultural and cultural elements, framing the hammer and sickle with oak branches and wheat stalks.
- The Motto: The phrase "Visų šalių, proletarai, vienykitės!" is the Lithuanian translation of the famous line from the Communist Manifesto.
- Signs of History: The lower right corner features a noticeable rectangular patch stitched onto the body of the flag. This indicates the banner was actively used, maintained, and repaired during its lifecycle rather than just being kept in clean storage.
Publishers / Manufacturer
- Manufacturer: State-regulated textile enterprises of the USSR (typically manufactured by specialized flag and banner workshops in the Baltic region or Moscow).
