The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a 2005 British-American high fantasy film co-written and directed by Andrew Adamson, based on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first published and second chronological novel in C. S. Lewis's children's epic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia.
During World War II, the Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, are evacuated from a London suburb to Professor Digory Kirke's country home. Mrs Macready, the strict housekeeper, explains he is unaccustomed to hosting children.
While the Pevensies play hide-and-seek, Lucy discovers a wardrobe and enters the fantasy world called Narnia. Seeing a lamppost, Lucy encounters the faun Mr. Tumnus, who invites her to his home. He puts Lucy to sleep by playing a lullaby on his flute. When Lucy wakes up, she finds Tumnus grieving. He explains that Jadis, the White Witch, has cursed Narnia to a hundred years of winter. If a human is encountered, they are to be brought to her. Tumnus cannot bring himself to kidnap Lucy, so he sends her home. When she returns to Professor Kirke's house, hardly any time has passed, and her siblings disbelieve her story.

Sie sollen für die Zeit des Krieges bei Professor Digory Kirke leben, um vor den deutschen Bombenangriffen in Sicherheit zu sein. Beim Versteckspiel entdeckt die Jüngste, Lucy, in dem riesigen verwinkelten Herrenhaus des Professors mit vielen Räumen und Türen einen seltsamen Kleiderschrank, der ein Portal in eine andere Welt öffnet.
Sie trifft dort an einem Laternenpfahl auf den Faun Tumnus, der sie mit zu sich nach Hause einlädt. Als sie gegessen haben, schläft sie ein. Nachdem sie lange geschlafen hat, sagt ihr Herr Tumnus, wer er wirklich ist: ein Spion der Weißen Hexe, die behauptet, Königin von Narnia zu sein. Sie hat befohlen, alle Menschen, die man in Narnia findet, an sie auszuliefern. Lucy kann ihn überreden, sie nicht zu verraten, und rennt sofort mit Herrn Tumnus zu dem Laternenpfahl zurück, wo sie alleine zum Kleiderschrank zurückfindet.

Londra, durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Lucy, Susan, Edmund e Peter Pevensie sono quattro fratelli che vengono allontanati dalla città per sfuggire ai bombardamenti tedeschi, affidati alle cure del misterioso professor Digory Kirke e della sua burbera governante, la signora Macready, che abitano in una grande e lussuosa casa in campagna, ma priva di divertimento. In un pomeriggio piovoso, i quattro fratelli decidono, per passare il tempo, di giocare a nascondino e, mentre Peter fa la conta, Susan si nasconde dentro a una cassapanca, Edmund dietro le tende e la dolce Lucy (la più piccola) all'interno di un armadio magico; ma, una volta entrata, scopre che è molto di più di un semplice guardaroba: è infatti una specie di portale che conduce in una terra incantata, chiamata "Narnia".
