English Description:

Grasp the full meaning behind the original Greek and Hebrew texts with the first-of-its-kind Amplified® Study Bible

The Amplified® translation was created to deliver enhanced understanding of the rich nuances and shades of meaning of the original Bible languages. For this kind of study, no working knowledge of Greek or Hebrew is required—just a desire to know more about what God says in his Word. Now the updated Amplified translation is even easier to read and better than ever to study and understand. It includes more amplification in the Old Testament and refined amplification in the New Testament. Additionally, the Bible text has been improved to read smoothly with or without amplifications, so that the text may be read either way. It’s the same study material that Amplified readers love, now with even clearer wording for deeper understanding.

The Amplified Study Bible features verse by verse study notes and the text of the newly revised Amplified translation, using a unique system of punctuation, italics, references, and synonyms to unlock subtle shades of meaning as found in the original languages. This is paired with over 5,000 concise study notes that provide helpful, practical, application-oriented comments on passages of Scripture and open the Word for readers to apply it to life.

The New Testament was originally written in the most exact language man has possessed, ancient Greek, with its amazing ability to preserve even the secret intent behind the words. For centuries, the fullness of the New Testament message has remained hidden in this older tongue, challenging scholars and researchers to produce a translation that would unveil the wealth and mystery. Numerous attempts have been made to bring a complete revelation in modern language, but as always, the corresponding English words simply were not available. In June of 1958, The Amplified New Testament was released by Zondervan. This startling work employs an amplifying device built into the text which permits readers to behold the New Testament truths expanded to encapsulate the original meaning. Not only are the different shades of meaning presented, but page after page takes the average reader to Scriptural treasures seldom seen by the layman. 12,000 hours of scholarly research of an editorial board of nationally known churchmen, have brought this authentic and unbiased volume entirely free of denominational prejudice to the Christian world.

The Amplified Bible (AMP) is an English language translation of the Bible produced jointly by Zondervan and The Lockman Foundation. The first edition was published in 1965. It is largely a revision of the American Standard Version of 1901, with reference made to various texts in the original languages. It is designed to "amplify" the text by using additional wording and a system of punctuation and other typographical features to bring out all shades of meaning present in the original texts.

The Amplified Bible was published in six stages:

  • Gospel of John (1954)
  • New Testament (1958)
  • Old Testament Volume Two (Book of Job–Book of Malachi) (1962)
  • Old Testament Volume One (Book of Genesis–Book of Esther) (1964)
  • Complete Bible (1965)
  • Expanded Edition (1987)

The Amplified Bible was revised in 2015, now known as the Amplified Holy Bible; more amplifications in the Old Testament were added, and refinements made to the New Testament amplifications.

The bulk of the work of producing the Amplified Bible was undertaken by Frances Siewert, employed by the Lockman Foundation.
