Overview

This is Ten Years After caught whole and unretouched — bassist Ric Lee's liner note makes a point of it: what you hear is exactly as played on the night, no overdubs, no studio patching. The 2008 line-up pairs two original members, drummer Ric Lee and bassist Leo Lyons, with keyboardist Chick Churchill and guitarist-vocalist Joe Gooch, running through a full festival set in Verviers, Belgium.

The signed cover is the hook here. All four musicians have autographed the inner photo in black marker, and because the front sleeve names and pictures each of them, the signatures line up cleanly with the band — the kind of provenance that makes a used copy worth more than the disc alone.

The setlist leans on the classics that built the band's reputation — "Love Like A Man," "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl," and the marathon "I'm Going Home" that stopped Woodstock in its tracks — alongside later material like "The Hobbit" and "Big Black 45." Bonus features add a band interview, member biographies, and a studio track from the Evolution album.

Interesting Facts

  • Ten Years After's "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock in 1969, captured in the festival film, turned them into international stars almost overnight.
  • Founding bassist Leo Lyons later became a noted producer, working with UFO among others.
  • Joe Gooch joined in 2003 when original frontman Alvin Lee left, fronting the band on this recording.
  • The concert was staged at the Spirit of 66 club's Fiesta City Festival, a long-running blues and rock fixture in Verviers.
  • The disc is dedicated to the memory of Herb Staehr, a figure connected to the band's circle.
