Overview

Du bist die Welt für mich — "You Are the World to Me" — gathers the glamorous tunes that the tenor stars of the 1920s and early sound-film years made famous, from Richard Tauber's Weimar-era favorites to the songs of the new "talkie" age when film tenors like Joseph Schmidt were the superstars of their day.
Kaufmann hand-picked the program himself, and it shows. Lehár, Kálmán, Stolz, Korngold and Abraham sit side by side, swinging between aching romance and sheer charm. The Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Jochen Rieder gives these melodies a lush, period-true sweep, and soprano Julia Kleiter joins for three duets.
