Overview

This is the odd one in any collection. A blues album written specifically for a stage production of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, performed at Theater Ecce in Salzburg, Austria.

Ripoff Raskolnikov — the artist name itself a direct reference to the novel's protagonist — composed all thirteen tracks as accompaniment to Reinhold Tritscher's theatrical adaptation. The result sits somewhere between noir blues and chamber folk, with titles like "Perfect Murder," "Down in the Cold Cold Clay," and "Sonya" tracking the novel's moral arc through stripped-down song.

Its a niche within a niche. Blues written for European literary theatre, released on a small Austrian label, recorded clean and without pretension. The kind of disc that dosent show up twice.
