This elegant release from Naxos presents a comprehensive survey of Gabriel Fauré's exquisite works written for piano four hands and piano duet. Recorded at the Singel Concert Hall in Antwerp, Belgium, from April 8th to 12th, 1996, the album pairs the award-winning French pianist Pierre-Alain Volondat with Belgian master Patrick De Hooge. The program features the delightfully playful Dolly Suite, Op. 56, the rare Wagnerian satire Souvenirs de Bayreuth (co-composed with André Messager), the evocative Huit pièces brèves, Op. 84, and the elegant orchestration-turned-duet suite Masques et bergamasques, Op. 112.
