The Pannonian mosaics are ancient Roman artworks that were discovered in various sites in the former province of Pannonia, which covered most of present-day Hungary and parts of neighboring countries. They are colorful and intricate compositions of small pieces of stone, glass, or ceramic that form various patterns, images, or scenes. They were used to decorate the floors, walls, or ceilings of Roman buildings, such as villas, baths, temples, or public spaces. They reflect the artistic and cultural influences of the Roman Empire, as well as the local traditions and customs of Pannonia. Some of the most famous examples of Pannonian mosaics are found in Pécs, Aquincum, Savaria, Sopianae, and Intercisa. They depict mythological figures, animals, plants, geometric shapes, or scenes from everyday life.

The stamp that you wrote on was issued by Hungary in 1978 to celebrate the 51st Stamp Day, an annual event that honors the history and culture of philately in Hungary. The stamp features the artwork of Zombori Éva, a Hungarian painter and graphic artist who was born in 1922 and died in 2004. The stamp is part of a series of four stamps that depict different aspects of Hungarian history and culture. The other stamps feature coins, medals, and seals.
