English Summary:

Brotherhood of the Wolf (French: Le Pacte des loups) is a 2001 French historical action horror film directed by Christophe Gans, co-written by Gans and Stéphane Cabel, and starring Samuel Le Bihan, Mark Dacascos, Émilie Dequenne, Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel. The story takes place in 18th-century France, where the Chevalier de Fronsac and Mani of the Iroquois tribe are sent to investigate the mysterious slaughter of hundreds by an unknown creature in the province of Gévaudan.

During the French Revolution, Marquis d'Apcher writes his memoirs in his castle. He recounts to 1764, when a mysterious beast terrorized the province of Gévaudan. Grégoire de Fronsac, a knight and the royal naturalist of King Louis XV of France, and his Iroquois companion Mani, arrive to capture the beast. Fronsac grows to romance Marianne de Morangias, the daughter of a local count, whose brother, Jean-François, was also an avid hunter and a world traveller. Fronsac is also intrigued by Sylvia, an Italian courtesan at the local brothel.

Le long métrage évoque l'opposition entre l'obscurantisme et les Lumières, en s'inspirant librement de l'histoire de la Bête du Gévaudan qui fit de nombreuses victimes entre 1764 et 1767.

Le Pacte des loups est considéré comme l'un des plus grands succès du cinéma français dans le monde, malgré les critiques lui reprochant son manque de rigueur historique. En France, il a réuni près de 5 098 283 de spectateurs en salles.

En 1765, le chevalier Grégoire de Fronsac (Samuel Le Bihan), naturaliste au jardin du Roi, est envoyé en Gévaudan pour brosser le portrait de la Bête du Gévaudan. Il est accompagné de Mani, son ami et frère de sang Indien, rencontré en Nouvelle-France. Au cours de sa traque, Fronsac se heurte au conformisme d'une noblesse locale qui semble avoir de troublantes affinités avec le monstre qui massacre les paysans.

Az 1700-as évek második felében valahol Dél-Franciaországban arról suttognak, hogy egy titokzatos szörny garázdálkodik a környéken. Főleg asszonyokat és gyerekeket ragad el, s már legalább száz áldozatot marcangolt szét. A király értesül a lakosság körében növekvő pánikról, ezért odaküldi legkiválóbb katonáit, hogy keressék meg a szörnyet, és végezzenek vele. Grigoire de Fronsac, a ragyogó ifjú természettudós és irokéz indián vértestvére, Mani - akivel akkor találkozott, amikor Amerikában szolgált - rájönnek, hogy a király katonái képtelenek megtalálni a szörny nyomát Gévaudan sűrű erdőiben, ezért Grigoire-nek kell utána erednie.
