English Summary:

Le Jaguar is a 1996 French film directed by Francis Veber starring Jean Reno, Patrick Bruel, Harrison Lowe, and Patricia Velásquez. A shaman from the South American rain forest visits Paris for a public relations campaign along with a French ethnologist. When the shaman's soul is apparently stolen, he enlists the help of a good-for-nothing named Perrin, with whom he spontaneously created a spiritual link.

François Perrin is a gambler, anxious to escape the thugs who pursue him after her reneged on a bet. He stumbled upon Jean Campana, a French ethnologist and environmentalist who was raised in Amazon jungle, and his companion Wanu, a shaman who has left his remote home to help Campana campaign on the rain forest's behalf in Paris. When Wanu suddenly tweaks Perrin's nose and proclaims him to be the "chosen one", Perrin is naturally surprised. He is more surprised when Wanu shows up in his lavish apartment that same night, drugs him and covers him with ritual markings, thereby creating a magical link between them. The next day Wanu suffers a heart attack that he interprets as the theft of his soul. He beckons Perrin beside him and insists that he go to the jungle with Campana and find his soul, which has taken the form of a jaguar. Unfortunately for Perrin, the dense jungle proves to be far more dangerous than any gambler's henchmen and comical chaos ensues as he struggles to survive.

French Summary:

Wanù, un chef indien d'Amazonie est reçu à Paris afin de promouvoir la préservation de la forêt amazonienne. Dans l'hôtel de Crillon où il loge avec Jean Campana, son interprète, le chef indien fait la rencontre de François Perrin, un joueur de poker accablé de dettes de jeu, qui vient emprunter de l'argent à une amie. Un lien se crée entre les deux hommes, à la grande incompréhension de Perrin qui ne croit pas du tout, voire méprise les rites indiens.

Le lendemain, Wanù tombe gravement malade. Persuadé que Perrin est l'élu qu'il recherche depuis longtemps, il lui demande d'aller en Amazonie pour y chercher son âme que lui a dérobée Kumaré, le cauchemar des tribus indiennes qu'il s'est mis en tête de détruire. Perrin y voit surtout l'occasion rêvée d'échapper à ses créanciers. Il fait donc semblant d'accepter la mission. Campana, qui ne comprend pas pourquoi Wanù a choisi un homme aussi hautain et d'aussi mauvaise foi que Perrin, compte bien malgré tout lui faire mener à bien sa mission, de gré ou de force. Lorsqu'il voit Campana se débarrasser aisément de deux brutes envoyés par ses créanciers, Perrin s'aperçoit que l'interprète n'est pas n'importe qui et qu'il ne pourra pas lui échapper facilement. C'est là qu'il se voit confier un collier de cristaux censé protéger son âme et la fortifier, car elle est maintenant liée à Wanù.

Wanu, az indián az Amazonas őserdejéből érkezik Párizsba, hogy humanitáriánus küldetést teljesítsen. Campagna, a tolmács segíti, aki az indián nyelvjárások autodidakta tudora, és afféle Indiana Jones. Egy nap a Crillon Hotel liftjében belebotlanak Perrinbe, a léhűtőbe. Ahogy Wanu meglátja a férfit, rögtön tudja, hogy ő a kiválasztott. Ugyanis Wanu sámán, és az ilyesmit ránézésre megállapítja.
