English Summary:

The Keys to the House (Italian title: Le chiavi di casa) is an Italian 2004 dramatic family film based on the story Born Twice (Italian title: Nati due volte) telling the story of a young father meeting his handicapped son for the first time and attempts to forge a relationship with the teenager. The film was directed by Gianni Amelio.

Gianni (Kim Rossi Stuart) has left his handicapped son Paolo (Andrea Rossi) in the care of others since his birth. He has not been able to cope with Paolo’s mother’s death in childbirth or that Paolo has not developed like other children because of his handicap. Paolo is now fifteen and is about to meet his father for the first time. Gianni has been asked by his son's caretakers to bring him to a Berlin hospital for yearly tests and check-ups. According to their doctor, the "shock" of meeting his father could help Paolo in his treatment.

Gianni è un giovane padre che ha abbandonato il figlio Paolo subito dopo la nascita. Il bambino è nato affetto da patologia neuromotoria, mentre la giovane compagna di Gianni è morta di parto. Quindici anni dopo l'uomo decide di fare la conoscenza del figlio: l'occasione è data da un viaggio per portare il ragazzo in una clinica di Berlino per seguire alcune terapie. Durante il soggiorno nella città tedesca, Gianni farà la conoscenza di Nicole, una donna matura con una figlia affetta da patologia neuromotoria, che gli farà capire la grandezza dell'impegno che lo attende. Anche grazie a Nicole, Gianni e Paolo impareranno a conoscersi a fondo e a confrontarsi, ma alla fine sarà Paolo a confortare il padre.

A gyermek, Paolo, születésétől fogva testi és szellemi fogyatékkal él. A fiúnak speciális kezelésre kell utaznia egy berlini kórházba, ahová apja, Gianni kíséri el, azt remélve, hogy közelebb kerülhet fiához. Gianni az út folyamán megismerkedik Nicole-lal, aki egész életét beteg lánya ápolásának szenteli. Beszélgetéseik során Nicole segít Gianninak elfelejteni bűntudatát, amit Paolo cserbenhagyása miatt érez. A férfi lelki újjászületése váratlan és törékeny boldogságot visz apa és fia életébe. Képesek lesznek felfedezni igazi énjüket az otthonuktól távoli helyen.
