Overview

Argippo is one of the great rediscoveries of the Vivaldi Edition — an opera-pasticcio long thought lost until its manuscript resurfaced in Darmstadt in 2011. This recording is the first modern performance of the reconstructed score, with arias by Vivaldi alongside Pescetti, Hasse, Porpora, and others, woven together as the score did in Prague in 1730.

Fabio Biondi directs Europa Galante with a tight, characterful cast: Emőke Baráth in the title role, Marie Lys, Delphine Galou, Marianna Pizzolato, and Luigi De Donato. The result is fresh, dramatic Baroque opera, brought back from near-oblivion.
