Overview
This is an authentic Soviet-era small award pennant (вымпел) given to workers, collective farmers, or factory brigades who achieved outstanding results in production. The front features a classic portrait of Vladimir Lenin looking left, a laurel branch symbolizing victory, and the inscription "Победителю в социалистическом соревновании" (To the Winner in Socialist Competition).
The pennant is made of red satin fabric with a golden decorative border and a long yellow fringe at the bottom. The back side is blank red fabric. These pennants were popular collectibles and tokens of honor in Soviet workplaces, often hung on machinery, office walls, or kept in homes.
Interesting Facts
- Socialist Competition: This wasn't just a casual contest. "Socsorevnovanie" was a state-driven economic incentive system designed to boost productivity across the USSR without using capitalist financial models.
- Lenin's Image: The graphic style used for Lenin's portrait is based on canonical Soviet propaganda illustrations from the mid-20th century, meant to inspire discipline and ideological loyalty.
- Mass production variations: While hundreds of thousands of these were made in different shapes and sizes, finding them with the fringe and hanging cord intact is becoming harder for collectors of Soviet memorabilia.
Publishers / Production Origin
- Manufactured by various regional textile and printing factories under the Ministry of Culture or local local industry syndicates of the USSR.
