Overview
Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler doing what the genre does best — arguing their way toward the obvious conclusion. The Ugly Truth pairs Abby (Heigl), an uptight TV producer with very specific ideas about relationships, with Mike (Butler), the outrageously blunt on-air personality her network has just hired and whose dating advice she finds infuriating precisely because it keeps working.
The film is a battle-of-the-sexes comedy in the classic mould, directed by Robert Luketic with a screenplay by Nicole Eastman, Karen McCullah Lutz, and Kirsten Smith. The chemistry between the two leads carries it — Heigl plays controlled exasperation well, and Butler is essentially playing a louder version of the charm he'd deployed elsewhere. The supporting cast includes Eric Winter, John Michael Higgins, Nick Searcy, and Kevin Connolly.
This Hungarian Fórum / Sony edition is well-stocked with extras — a commentary track, bloopers, extended scenes, two alternate endings, and two behind-the-scenes featurettes. The disc is DVD9 dual-layer, running 92 minutes in 2.40:1 widescreen with a generous subtitle menu covering nineteen languages.
