Overview
The Colour of Spring is the album where Talk Talk left synth-pop behind and started becoming the band that would later make Spirit of Eden. Released in 1986, it's lush and organic — real instruments, room to breathe, and Mark Hollis's voice sitting at the centre of every arrangement.
"Life's What You Make It" is the hit and rightly so, built on a hypnotic piano figure that never lets up. But the rest rewards patience: "Happiness Is Easy" with its children's choir, the slow drift of "April 5th," the quiet "Chameleon Day." Eight tracks, none of them filler.
This is the transitional masterpiece — accessible enough to have been a commercial success, adventurous enough to point straight at the band's later work.
