Overview
Montgomery Brewster (Richard Pryor) has a problem almost nobody else would want: he has to spend 30 million dollars in thirty days without any assets to show for it at the end — and if he tells anyone why, he loses everything. Walter Hill's adaptation of the 1902 novel is pure comic momentum, with Pryor at his quickfire best and John Candy providing the best-friend energy that anchors the chaos. The film asks a genuinely funny question: how hard is it to waste money, really?
The answer, it turns out, is extremely hard — and the film squeezes maximum comedy out of the predicament. Pryor's timing is impeccable throughout, and Hill keeps the story moving without letting the logic get too tangled. This Hungarian-dubbed edition, released by Universal Studios in partnership with Budapest Film Kft., has been a staple of Hungarian TV and home video since the late 1980s.
