Description

The challenges and the opportunities in the fast-moving world of the 1960’s are many and complex. The role of the emerging nations, the Sino-Soviet threat, the ever-increasing destructive power of thermonuclear weapon — these are the dominant problems with which American and free-world leaders will have to deal in the next decade.

In search of a “global overview” of such pressing issues, the US Senate Committee on Foregin Relations contracted with thirteen leading American foreign-policy research centers for a seires on in-depth studies of US foreign and defense policies. The result was 1,431 printed pages, representing the most comprehensive current analysis of the challenges confronting US policy-makers in the years ahead and the needed responses.

STRATEGY FOR THE 60’S — which has been prepared by the Foreign Policy Clearing House — translates the findings of this monumental Senate project into brief, accurate and usable form, making available to the public the facts about the United States’ position in the world today and the guidelines by which the strategy for the future will be charted. The first part of the book presents an over-all analysis of the main ideas developed in the Senate reports, while the second part contains summary outlines of each of the reports.
