Week after week, Stargate SG 1, led by Colonel Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), travels through an almost endless network of stargates located on various planets throughout the known universe. Your mission is to contact as many (friendly) races as possible. They repeatedly meet the Goa'uld, who are known on Earth as the ancient Egyptian gods and have only one goal: to subjugate the universe.

In the second part of the cliffhanger "Nemesis", an artificially created life form reproduces by absorbing metal. The Asgard, who are more than a step above humans, are at war with these beings -- and are on the verge of extinction. That's when the SG-1 team intervenes. But artificial creatures are still on the rise. “Nemesis 2” is pure action, garnished with some special effects that are outstanding for a TV production.

“The Other Side of the Coin” is also staged in elaborate settings with some very excellent effects and also features a prominent guest star in René Auberjonois (Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ). The focus of the story is on people who, in turn, track down Earth and turn to the SG command for help. There is war on their planet. Their technology is 100 years superior to that of Earth. Since they are willing to share this with Earth, the Army makes a deal with them: the alien technology in exchange for some goods that are rather simple for the people on Earth, but which can be decisive for the war on the aliens' homeworld. Apparently no one seems to be interested in who you're actually doing business with -- and whether the supposed ally isn't actually an aggressor.

After these two really brilliant episodes, it might have been a bit much to ask if the next two episodes had also achieved this quality. Things are a little quieter in both 45-minute episodes, they are so-called "ship-in-the-bottle" episodes that take place almost exclusively in the familiar backdrop of the station, which suggests that after the extremely elaborately staged previous episodes Money had to be saved.
In "Legacy of the Athanians," the Tok'ra knock on the Stargate. The Tok'ra, who are at war with the evil Goa'ulds, although they belong to the same race as them, are in possession of a weapon that can be dangerous to the Goa'ulds. The problem: Goa'ulds - and the Tok'ra are among them after all - cannot use it because it has a generally fatal effect on their organism. The members of the SG-1 team agree to test this weapon, which is connected to their own bodies. Little do they know that the Tok'ra have kept some details from them.

Thematically, "Shan'Auc's Sacrifice" moves in similar territory. This time it is a Goa'uld who defects to the SG-1 team and agrees to reveal her knowledge of her people's plans if she is helped: Goa'ulds are known to be worm creatures that seek out foreign bodies and find themselves in them nest and live in them. In contrast to the Tok'ra, whose hosts enter into a voluntary symbiosis with them, the Goa'ulds take their hosts by force. Shan'Auc desperately needs a new host body for her larvae.
