Overview

The Toy Dolls turned three-chord punk into something gleefully cartoonish, and Our Last DVD? catches them doing it live and full-throttle. Recorded at Utrecht's Tivoli in Holland in November 2004 on the "Our Last Tour?" run, it's the Sunderland trio — Olga on guitar and vocals, Tommy Goober on bass, Dave The Nut on drums — tearing through a career-spanning set with the speed and daft humour that made them a cult act.

The setlist is huge: the breakthrough novelty smash "Nellie The Elephant" sits alongside fan favourites like "Dig That Groove Baby," "Yul Brynner Was A Skinhead," "Fisticuffs In Frederick Street," classical-punk mash-ups ("Sabre Dance," "Toccata," "Boccherini Bit") and the surf staple "Wipe Out." More than two and a half hours in all, filmed with multiple cameras and mixed in 5.1.

Beyond the concert, the disc adds a 40-minute interview with Olga in Camden filmed January 2005, plus behind-the-scenes, rehearsal and on-tour footage from across 2004. For Toy Dolls fans and punk collectors, this is one of the band's most complete live documents — released to mark 25 years of the group.

Interesting Facts

  • The Toy Dolls formed in Sunderland in 1979; this DVD was released to mark the band's 25th anniversary.
  • Their cover of "Nellie The Elephant" became a UK Top 5 hit in late 1984, the song most casual listeners know them for.
  • The band is known for punk arrangements of classical and novelty pieces — Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance" and Boccherini turn up in the set here.
  • Frontman Olga (Michael Algar) is the one constant member through the band's many lineups.
  • Drummer "Dave The Nut" plays Jalapeno handmade drums, credited on the sleeve.
  • The release came via Secret Films, the concert arm of Secret Records, known for multi-camera 5.1 live capture of classic UK acts.
