The masterpiece of Russian opera Boris Godunov, by Modest Mussorgsky, was performed in the open air and for the first time in front of Sofia's St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. This spectacular project, realized in the summer of 2014 and conceived by Plamen Kartaloff, the director of Sofia's Opera, saw the participation of the soloists, orchestra, chorus, and of the production and technical services of the Sofia Opera. 2014 marked the 100th birth anniversary of the famous bass Boris Christoff, but this production was also dedicated to the 85th birth anniversary of Nicolai Ghiaurov: both were world-renowned for their interpretations of the role of Boris Godunov. 2014 also marked 90 years since the consecration of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. These three anniversaries and this unique project turned into a real feast for the lovers of opera. The performance of Boris Godunov under the starry sky of Sofia attracted many people and tourists from all over Europe. The role of Boris was sung by the great voice of Martin Tsonev. On the podium, Konstantin Chudovski.
