Overview
Cream packed a startling amount into two short years, and this disc gathers archive footage of the power trio that made Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker household names. The bulk comes from early Cream in London in 1967 and '68 — performances of the songs that defined them, "Sunshine of Your Love," "White Room," "Crossroads," "I'm So Glad" and "Spoonful."
Alongside the London material is a 1968 appearance from the Smothers Brothers TV show (noted on the sleeve as a rare tape of rougher quality) and three numbers from the band's 1993 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction performance in Los Angeles — "Born Under a Bad Sign," "Crossroads" and a closing "Sunshine of Your Love," the reunited trio decades on.
It's a compact 42-minute collection rather than a full concert film, and the sources vary in quality, but for Cream fans and collectors of 1960s rock it gathers hard-to-find clips in one place — including that reunion footage that bookends the band's story.
Interesting Facts
- Cream were active only from 1966 to 1968 yet are regarded as rock's first true "supergroup" and a foundational power trio.
- The disc includes footage from the band's 1993 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Los Angeles.
- "Sunshine of Your Love" appears three times across the disc — twice from the 1960s and once from the 1993 reunion.
- The 1968 Smothers Brothers TV appearance is flagged on the sleeve as a rare tape of rough quality.
- Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker formed the rhythm section; their interplay with Clapton's guitar defined the trio's improvisational live sound.
