Overview

Az Operaház Fantomja is the Hungarian-language cast recording of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, produced at the Madách Színház in Budapest and released in 2003 under exclusive license from Really Useful Group Limited. The Madách production was one of the most significant musical theatre events in Hungarian cultural history — the first major Lloyd Webber staging in Hungary, mounted at one of Budapest's most important theatres.

This 2 CD set presents the complete Hungarian-language score across 21 tracks, following the show's structure from the opening auction sequence through both acts to the final confrontation. The Hungarian adaptations of Don Black and Charles Hart's lyrics give the familiar score a distinct character — the language sits naturally in Lloyd Webber's melodic lines, and the recording documents a production that ran for years and defined a generation of Hungarian musical theatre audiences.

CD1 opens with the Prológus and carries the first act through to "Ennyit kérek én (repríz)," covering all the score's signature moments: "Az éj zenéje" (The Music of the Night), "Gondolj rám" (Think of Me), "A Fantom," and the Prima Donna sequence. CD2 opens with the second act's Nyitány and moves through the Maszkabál (Masquerade), the backstage scenes, and the final underground sequences — "Túl késő" (All I Ask of You reprise) and "Üzött vad" (The Point of No Return) — to the close.
