English Summary:

La Reine Soleil (The Sun Queen) is a French animated feature film (French/Hungarian/Belgian co-production) made by Philippe Leclerc. It was released in France on 4 April 2007. The animation was created by the Hungarian company Cinemon studios and special effects were created by Greykid Pictures, which was also responsible for compositing and some of the animation. The story is based on the novel La Reine Soleil by Christian Jacq.

In Ancient Egypt, during the monotheistic regime of Akhenaten, Akhesa is a beautiful princess, 14 years of age. An impetuous young girl, Akhesa rebels against her father's dictates. She refuses to live confined in the royal palace and wants to discover why her mother, Queen Nefertiti, has been exiled on the island of Elephantine. Assisted by her betrothed, prince Tutankhaten or "Tut", Akhesa flees the court in hopes of finding her mother. In defiance of danger the two teenagers travel down the Nile to the burning-hot desert dunes, courageously facing the mercenary Zannanza and priests of Amun Ra, who are conspiring to overthrow the pharaoh because of his rejection of their god. With innocence their only weapon, Akhesa and Tut overcome many hardships, and encounter an extraordinary destiny.

French Summary:

Le film se déroule en Égypte antique, au temps de la XVIII^e dynastie, et met en scène le voyage initiatique de la jeune Akhesa (de son nom complet Ânkhésenpaaton), ravissante princesse de 14 ans. Lorsque son aventure commence, l’impétueuse jeune fille se rebelle contre son père, le pharaon Akhenaton, scandalisée que ce dernier épouse la sœur aînée d'Akhesa, Mérytaton, alors que leur mère est toujours en vie. Refusant de vivre confinée dans l’enceinte du palais royal elle veut découvrir pourquoi sa mère, la reine Néfertiti, est partie s’exiler sur l’île d’Eléphantine.

Aidée du prince Thout (futur Toutankhamon), Akhesa s’enfuit dans l’espoir de retrouver sa mère. Au mépris du danger les deux adolescents voyagent alors des rives du Nil aux dunes brûlantes du désert, affrontant avec courage le mercenaire Zannanza et les prêtres d'Amon Ré qui complotent pour renverser le pharaon.

Avec leur innocence comme seule arme, Akhesa et Thout surmonteront de nombreuses épreuves, et connaîtront ensemble un destin extraordinaire.

Hungarian Summary:

Minden nagy fáraó mögött egy asszony áll. Akhesa hercegnő persze még nem számít asszonynak. Tizennégy éves, vad és neveletlen: pedig az őt körülvevő felnőttek mindent elkövetnek, hogy hozzátörjék a fáraó udvarának szigorú szokásaihoz. Akesha azonban egyre-másra meglóg otthonról, és álnéven, álruhában élvezi a közeli piac forgatagát. Önállóságának, éles eszének, no meg a macskájának köszönheti, hogy már többet tud a világról, mint apja, Akhnáton fáraó: tudja, hogy Karnakban a papok összeesküvést szőnek uralkodójuk ellen, és az ország határára nomád harcosok érkeztek, akik titokzatos megbízójuk utasítására várnak. A lány elszökik otthonról, anyjához, Nefretitihez indul az elefántok szigetére, hogy a segítségével, vagy ha kell, egyedül megmentse az országot. És esetleg még szerelmes is lehessen közben...
