Overview

Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is, to his wife and family, a mundane computer salesman. He is also, to a very small and highly classified circle, one of the most effective covert operatives in the United States government. True Lies is James Cameron having unashamed fun after The Terminator, Aliens, and The Abyss — a big, loud, expensive action comedy that also, quietly, works as a domestic drama about a marriage that has drifted into fiction from both sides.

The tango sequence, the Harrier jet finale, the hotel room interrogation — Cameron stages each set piece with absolute confidence and a scale that no other director was operating at in 1994. Jamie Lee Curtis's performance as Helen Tasker, given a showcase mid-film, is genuinely funny and more emotionally committed than the genre usually asks for. This UK/Ireland VFC pressing of the Universal PAL edition is the standard British release, with both English and Hungarian audio tracks available.
