Overview
Horváth Attila wrote the words — a lot of the words. Over two decades he supplied lyrics to the most enduring bands in Hungarian rock: Piramis, Charlie, Korál, Bojtorján, Omen, Senator, Kern, Cserháti. Jég dupla whiskyvel gathers seventeen of those songs into one place, presented as a tribute to the lyricist rather than to any single performer.
The compilation runs the full width of what Horváth Attila could do on the page: "Ugye nem hiszed el?" opens with slow-burning melodic rock from Korál, the title track follows with Charlie's sharp-edged reading of it, and the set keeps shifting through Piramis's sweeping "Emelj fel a szíveddig" and "Ha volna két életem," the rougher energy of Bojtorján's contributions, Omen's "Fagyott világ," Senator, Kern, and Cserháti rounding out the back half. The booklet reproduces two of the song lyrics in full alongside a personal essay from Demjén Ferenc and notes from Horváth Attila himself — making it a document as much as a playlist.
For collectors of Hungarian rock of the 1970s–90s, this is one of the more thoughtfully assembled compilations of its era: a lyricist-centred collection that doubles as a cross-section of the golden age of Magyar rock.
Interesting Facts
- Horváth Attila is one of the most prolific and celebrated lyricists in Hungarian popular music, with a career spanning from the early 1970s through to the 1990s and beyond.
- Piramis, one of Hungary's most beloved rock bands, appears four times on this disc — the largest single presence among the contributing bands.
- Charlie's version of "Jég dupla whiskyvel" (written with Lerch István) gives the compilation its title, a wry, blues-tinged meditation on a night going wrong.
- The booklet essay by Demjén Ferenc offers a rare candid reflection on the working relationship between performer and lyricist in Hungarian rock.
- The disc was produced under the Magneoton imprint, Warners' primary Hungarian rock and pop label in the 1990s.
- Rights are administered by Biem/Artisjus, the Hungarian music rights collecting society.
