Johann Sebastian Bach ( Eisenach , March 31 , 1685 ( March 21 according to the Julian calendar still used there ) - Leipzig , July 28 , 1750 ) Baroque -era German composer , organist , violinist , an outstanding individual in music , Protestant church famous representative of music.

He was the most significant figure of the Bach dynasty , which can be traced back to the beginning of the 17th century . He was born in Eisenach, where he learned to play music; initially from his father, and then, when orphaned, from his older brother, Johann Christoph . In 1700 , during his studies in Lüneburg , he became intimately familiar with the organ , which he soon became a virtuoso connoisseur of. He first played in the Weimar orchestra and then became the organist of the church in Arnstadt . In 1707 , he accepted a position as an organist in Mühlhausen , where he married his second cousin, Maria Barbara Bach .
