Overview
This is the great French organist Marie-Claire Alain's first complete traversal of Bach's organ works — recorded between 1959 and 1967, when she was in her thirties, and described by Alain herself as her most "instinctive" Bach. Long unavailable in this form, it appears here on CD for the first time, freshly remastered from the original tapes.
Fifteen discs take in the whole towering catalogue: the Trio Sonatas, the great Preludes & Fugues, the Orgelbüchlein, the Leipzig Chorales, Clavier-Übung III, the Passacaglia, and far more. Alain plays historic instruments across Northern Europe, and her clarity and rhythmic life set the standard that made her the most recorded Bach organist of the century.
For organ lovers and Bach collectors, the first-on-CD status and high-resolution remastering make this a significant release.
