Overview
Zorán has been one of Hungary's most enduring voices since the 1970s — a singer-songwriter whose work holds up precisely because it never chased fashion. Édes Évek ("Sweet Years"), released in 2004 on Hungaroton, is one of his most personal collections: twelve songs plus three bonus tracks that move between quiet introspection and the kind of melodic pop that sounds inevitable once you've heard it.
The title track opens the album with a characteristic Zorán move — a deceptively simple melody carrying more weight than the arrangement lets on. Tracks like "Szobrok," "Mária volt," and "Gyémánt és arany" show the full range: love songs that avoid sentimentality, reflective pieces that don't tip into self-pity. "Fehér sziklák" and "Kócos ördögök" bring a lighter touch, while the closing bonus track "Könyörgés" (4'36") is the album's longest and most quietly demanding moment.
Hungaroton produced the disc with the clean, uncluttered sound that suited Zorán's voice best. The back cover collages black-and-white photographs of global events from the decades the artist came up through — a neat visual suggestion that these songs carry real time behind them.

Interesting Facts
- Zorán (born Sztevanovity Zorán, 1948, Budapest) began his career in the late 1960s and became a dominant figure in Hungarian rock and pop through the 1970s alongside Illés and Omega.
- His 1975 solo debut established him as a songwriter in his own right; Édes Évek came nearly three decades into a career that never required reinvention.
- Hungaroton, Hungary's state music label founded in 1951, released much of the defining Hungarian pop catalog through the socialist era and continued as the country's most important domestic label into the 2000s.
- "Gyémánt és arany" (Diamond and Gold) and "Fehér sziklák" (White Cliffs) both received significant radio play in Hungary upon release.
- The three bonus tracks — "Az legyél, akinek látszol," "Játssz még!," and "Könyörgés" — bring the total to 15 songs, making this an unusually generous standard release for the period.
