Overview
The Hamburg Blues Band stands for intensive, cleverly arranged roots blues that regularly leaves even purists shaken. That's the short version.
The longer version: this is a band built around Gert Lange — a vocalist regularly compared to Joe Cocker — backed by a tight core of seasoned European blues musicians. They blend hard-hitting guitar blues rock with soul, classic rhythm and blues, boogie, and even excursions into jazz territory.
Mad Dog Blues mixes seven studio cuts with five live tracks. The studio side shows the band's craft at full stretch. The live side is where things get raw — especially the nearly eight-minute "Sing The Blues For You" with Chris Farlowe tearing it up front.
Following the departure of lead guitarist Alex Conti in spring 2008, former Humble Pie and Colosseum guitarist Clem Clempson joined as a permanent member. His lead guitar is all over this record — not just on his own vocal feature "It Ain't Right" but woven through the whole set.
This copy carries signatures from the entire band — on the front cover and across the inner booklet group photo, in black and blue marker.

Áttekintés
A Hamburg Blues Band intenzív, okosan aranygált roots bluest játszik, ami a legkeményebb puritsákat is megrendíti. Röviden ennyi.
A hosszabb változat: ez egy olyan zenekar, amelynek élén Gert Lange áll — egy énekes, akit rendszeresen hasonlítanak Joe Cockerhez —, mögötte egy szoros, tapasztalt európai blues zenészeihból álló csapattal. Keményen csattanó gitáros blues rockot kevernek soul-lal, klasszikus rhythm and blues-szal, boogie-val, és időnként jazzbe is kóstolnak.
A Mad Dog Blues hét stúdiófelvételt és öt élő sávot ötvöz. A stúdió oldal a zenekar mesterségbeli tudását mutatja be. Az élő oldal nyers — különösen a közel nyolc perces "Sing the Blues for You" Chris Farlowe-val az élen.
Ezen a kiadányon az egész zenekar aláírása szerepel — az előlapon és a belső booklet csoportképén egyaránt, fekete és kék filcerővel.
Érdekes tények
- A Hamburg Blues Band-et 1982-ben alapította Gert Lange énekes és ritmusgitáros; a zenekar egész történetén át neves brit zenészekkel működött együtt.
- Dick Heckstall-Smith — a Bluesbreakers és a Colosseum egykori szaxofonosa — a zenekar alapításától, 1982-től haláláig, 2004-ig annak meghatározó tagja volt.
- Chris Farlowe, aki négy élő felvételen hallható, a legjobban az 1966-os brit No.1 slágeréről ismert — az "Out of Time"-ot Mick Jagger és Keith Richards producelte.
- Maggie Bell, aki a "Wishing Well" c. dalban énekel, a Stone the Crows énekesnője volt — Robert Plant őt emlegette kedvenc énekesei között.
- A "Bad to the Bone" dalszövegét Pete Brown írta — az a költő, aki a Cream klasszikusait, köztük a "Sunshine of Your Love"-ot és a "White Room"-ot is szerezte.
