Overview

This Naxos box gathers a complete Mahler symphony cycle — all the numbered symphonies plus a performing version of the unfinished Tenth — across fifteen discs and more than thirteen hours. The bulk is led by Antoni Wit with the Polish forces he knows intimately, recordings that earned strong critical notices on their original release.

Mahler said "the symphony must be like the world; it must embrace everything," and these readings honour that scale — the vast choral architecture of the Eighth, the irony and tenderness of the Fourth, the long emotional arcs of the Third and Ninth. The set includes the Tenth completed by Joe Wheeler, a thoughtful choice.

With detailed notes and sung texts included, it's an outstanding-value way to own the whole cycle.
